Tashi Brauen’s first work-catalogue “Hold On” looks back on his artistic work of the last 15 years. His work is a continuous process between installation, photography, collage and painting, always with a preference for forms, surfaces and colors in minimalist expression. His artistic work is characterized by the interaction of strict planning and spontaneous impulses. He sets clear structures in order to deliberately break them in experimental processes, often in collaboration with other artists. His focus is on the staging of spaces and objects, which he captures photographically. Everyday objects arranged into installations create promising fields of tension through light and shadow.

Brauen’s works reflect art history and balance opposites such as chance and control, organic and geometric, and are characterized by vibrant colors. Brauen’s Tibetan-Swiss origins and his socialization in an artistic-spiritual environment subtly flow into his work. He was particularly inspired by Western artists such as Hans Arp, Ellsworth Kelly and Barnett Newman, as well as Zurich Concrete Art. Without narrative or metaphorical references, Brauen is concerned with experiencing the here and now, similar to the Buddhist concept of emptiness – an open, alert and conscious perception. Brauen sees art as a way of connecting people and creating the potential for deeper understanding.
