The catalog for Mona Hakimi-Schüler “Talking about the Revolution” accompanies the exhibition of the same name at the Städtische Galerie Fruchthalle, Rastatt, from 4/06/2024 to 7/01/2025.
In her works, the artist Mona Hakimi-Schüler deals with her origins and socialization in Iran. Having grown up in Tehran and now living in Berlin, she translates her stories into oil paintings, drawings, collages and sculptures. They tell of the culture of Iran, but also of protest, violence and growing up in a deeply patriarchal society. She repeatedly appears in the works herself and addresses the role of women in both Iranian and Western society. She sheds light on the political situation in Iran and combines Persian literature and Iranian art history with her own life story. In this way, she also questions the Eurocentric perspective on Iran and the Middle East.
With the exhibition “Talking about the Revolution” by Mona Hakimi-Schüler, the Städtische Galerie Fruchthalle is focusing on a current topic to mark the 175th anniversary of the Baden Revolution with the question: How do revolutionary movements work toward justice, freedom, and democratic change?
The bilingual exhibition catalog contains, in addition to a foreword by Mayor Monika Müller, an essay and an interview as well as individual short texts on the artist’s works with around 100 illustrations from the exhibition and reproductions of selected works.
In addition, Mona Hakimi’s installations, paintings and collages can be seen at Ivonne Hohner Contemporary in the exhibition “Angels Come In As Demons Leave”, a cooperation with Städtische Galerie Fruchthalle.
Accompanying program and further information can be found at Städtische Galerie Fruchthalle, Rastatt and at Mona Hakimi-Schüler.
