In their joint book project “Doppeltes Spiel” (Double Game), Jens and Corinna Rosteck combine photography and poetry into an extraordinary artistic whole, – an artist’s book in which images and text are interwoven on an equal footing. The siblings, who have been sharing their lives for almost six decades, use their forms of expression as a mirror of their own relationship and inner world, of their individual perceptions and shared life journeys.
In long poems and photographs, a multi-layered interplay of closeness and distance, self-presentation and intimacy emerges. Their works, which they call “Gedankenlanschaften” (Landscapes of Minds), thrive on clear form and experimental openness. The Rostecks draw their inspiration from various places and stages of life, including Ibiza, Paris, Nice and Berlin. Mediterranean solitude, city boulevards, deserts and seascapes also shape their visual and linguistic worlds.
At the heart of “Doppeltes Spiel” lie familiarity, perception and the complexity of human relationships. The boundaries between the self, image, text and music are deliberately blurred, creating an open space for interpretation. Jens and Corinna Rosteck work with cross-fades, fragments and poetic condensations. This results in works that oscillate between closeness and distance, provocation and vulnerability, reflection and confrontation. The book invites readers to perceive relationships in their fleeting, contradictory and sensual form of beauty.
